Google’s Magic Editor will fix your bad photo skills

We’ve all been there… you’re at a party or on the playground with your niece and you pull out your phone just seconds too late to catch the perfect photo. At today’s Google I/O conference, CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Google Photos will soon be able to make up for your poor timing with a tool called Magic Editor.

With the help of generative AI, Magic Editor, a “a new experimental editing experience,” will help you make complex edits to photos with a simple click.

Parts of a photo — like a bird ruining your sunset shot — can be removed or repositioned. The tool can be used to help recreate the day as you remember it. Was the sky brighter than it looks in your photo? With Magic Editor, you can remove clouds to make the day reflect your memory.

The most exciting Magic Editor aspect is that it can fill in the gaps after repositioning an object or even generate the rest of an object that was cut off in the original photo. Select Pixel phones will get early access to Magic Editor later this year.
